We had a busy and packed 2011. (Russ) Arun went to India in Dec/Jan for his niece’s reception in Cochin. Radhika immediately followed in Feb to catch up with family & friends. Travel was reasonably high for the family overall this year. (Russ) Arun went to India 3 other times and to Beijing once for business reasons. We all went to Duke in Apr for Nikhil’s DefMo Showcase. Radhika went in May again to Duke for Nikhil’s graduation. In June, (Russ) Arun and his mom, went to Phoenix for his nephew’s wedding. In Aug, (Russ) Arun, Radhika and Vikas joined the Harikrishnan’s for a wonderful trip to Alaska. One of the highlights was a trip to the Katmai National Forest, where we landed in a remote lake in the middle of nowhere on a float plane and spent a few hours in close proximity to the grizzly bears fishing in the river. During the year, we were graced by many visits from family and friends. (Russ) Arun’s mom visited us in May/June. Radhika’s dad visited us in Sep. In Dec we spent time in Florida and on a Caribbean cruise.

Nikhil is 22 years old. He graduated from Duke this year (in May) with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Economics. Starting this summer Nikhil also traveled quite a bit. In June he went to California and the East Coast to spend time with friends. In July he traveled in India and caught up with cousins, uncles, aunts and grandparents. In Aug, he joined a few folks from Duke, and was part of the opening ceremony at the World Universiade in Shenzen, China. You can see Nikhil (in a pink shirt) and his friends perform starting at around minute 123, after Hu Jintao, President of China, declares the games open. After that, Nikhil toured China as part of DefMo (and along with the Duke basketball team) and performed in a few cities as part of a Duke PR program in China. After a quick pit stop in Seattle, he was off to Europe with Nihar Naik. In Sep he joined Microsoft in the Bing/XBox project. The work he did was part of the XBox Christmas launch.

Vikas is 17 years old and in eleventh grade. He is sporting quite the workload along with his hectic dance schedule. Also dance took Vikas to quite a few places. In April, Vikas went with Josh Scribner to New York City and participated in the “Run the Night” at BB King’s and they both won first place with the piece “Tap This” in that event (though this version in Bellevue called “Tap 2.0” is more viewable). In June, just after school, he went to Phoenix for a couple of days to train and then performed on a Carnival cruise with the crew from Celebrity. In July, Dance Nationals took him back to Las Vegas. Lastly in Sep, he trained with Jessica Starr and participated in Michelle Obama’s “Let us move” campaign.
